Hats Heels & High Tea Social… A Success!!!

On the 2nd of May, Canorient, Calgary Chapter had their very first High Tea Social for the ladies and their girlfriends, at the Varsity Tower’s Lounge. This “all-women” venture was well received and eagerly supported by the ladies, I guess deep down, we all do relish the opportunity to get a little bit frocked up, sport a fetching hat and while away a few hours eating, drinking and laughing with our girlfriends.

As luck would have it, it turned out to be a beautiful day! The ladies strolled in, dressed either like British Royalty or Southern Belles and looked positively smashing! They were ushered into the lounge, which was transformed into an English Tea Parlour; the billiard table was converted into a smorgasbord of delectable high tea treats. I am pleased to add here that quite a few of the items were prepared by our very talented members *clap clap*. As the Brits would say, everyone had a “jolly good time”, they mixed, mingled, enjoyed the lavish spread and left happy with beautiful giveaways and a rose as a reminder of a wonderful afternoon.

A big thank you to the ladies who attended, your enthusiasm and support convinced me that “High Tea” is going to become a tradition in the Association, and when it does, we have 29 women who can call themselves the “First Ladies” of the Calgary Chapter’s High Tea. I also have to mention that our very first “English” and “Ladies Only” event coincided with the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge. The first girl to be born in the Monarchy in 25 years!! Talk about Royal beginnings!!

On behalf of the Canorient Executive Committee, Peggy and I would like to thank the ladies who helped make this day a fabulous success with their time, talent and donations:
Cheryl Monteiro, Maryanne Perdeck, Natalie D’souza, Sandy Almeida, Charmaine Monteiro, Shirley D’Costa, Candace Monteiro, Natasha DeWeerd, Ashley Olivera, Olive Rego, Queeny McMurray and Shania D’Costa.
We also have a member who generously donated gifts but wishes to remain anonymous.

Here are a few of many appreciations received:

Excellent party, the food, company, games, décor and prizes were all fantastic…” Zelma Carvalho.
Congratulations for having a wonderful High Tea event. Hope there will be more” Veronica Bennett.
“Thank you for organizing such a great tea party” Patricia McMurray (Queenie).
“Kudos and thanks for planning and coordinating a very successful event” Zenwill Sequeira.
“We enjoyed every minute of feeling special.”
“I had a wonderful time at the High Tea. Thank you for all your efforts, as I could see it was a lot of work.”
“Thanks for all your efforts and for coming up with the idea.” Natalie D’souza

Finally, I leave you with my favorite quote:
The tea kettle is always up to its neck in hot water and it still sings!

…and a Toast to “Royal Beginnings and Traditions”!
