Apna Karachi 2012

If the success of an association’s event can be determined by the number of attendees, and what they can give back to the community, then, with almost two hundred people attending, and a significant donation to a local charity, the Canorient’s Apna Karachi was without a doubt, a resounding one.

Members and guests came together, in their finest ethnic outfits, to not only have a good time, but to also support a very worthy cause. The Calgary Women’s Shelter was the big winner, with the proceeds from a henna table, run by Venetia D’Souza, and a raffle of two gift baskets, one of which was donated by members James & Debbie Dubash going to this very worthy cause.

Another group that benefitted was the Calgary Food Bank, because even though not a lot of food was collected, every little bit helps. So thank you once again.

This year’s cultural extravaganza was held at Magnolia Banquet Hall in Northeast Calgary. The excellent food, music, a party happy crowd, and not forgetting some great door prizes, a couple of which were donated by members Tony & Charlotte Rocha, all contributed to a really fun evening.

The committee would like to thank everyone, for their tremendous support, to the Canorient, the Calgary Women’s Shelter and the Calgary Food Bank. It’s nice to know that you guys put the UNITY back in community.
